Our address on East Grand River Avenue puts us on the same street as the Howell Downtown Historic District, five blocks listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1987 with 46 contributing buildings. Ground-floor display windows on a nineteenth-century commercial block are wide, old and close to the sidewalk, so road film shows on them within days. The Livingston County Courthouse, built between 1889 and 1890 at 200 East Grand River Avenue, and the Howell Opera House, which opened on 30 December 1881, anchor the same corridor. Howell Main Street took the 2018 Great American Main Street Award, one of three winners nationwide that year, and a street that has been judged on how it looks is a street where clean glass is part of the job.

Brighton

Brighton's downtown wraps around its Mill Pond, where a half-mile boardwalk and the AMP amphitheatre put water and foot traffic directly outside the windows. When the view is the reason a room faces that direction, a streak is not a small thing. Only 42.8 percent of Brighton housing units are single-family detached homes, with a large share of downtown condominiums and apartments (2023 American Community Survey), so a good deal of the glass here sits above street level and is reached with pole systems rather than from inside the unit. The city's Imagination Station, a 10,000-square-foot wooden playground raised by roughly 1,500 volunteers in 1996, and the 1879 Old Town Hall, set at an angle so it lines up with both Main and St. Paul streets, sit within the same few walkable blocks.
